NATIONAL GARDENING WEEK

National Gardening Week is upon us. An annual event organised by the RHS to encourage more people to take part in the healthy and productive outdoor activity of gardening, runs this year from 27th April to 5th May and is the nation’s biggest celebration of gardening. The Royal Horticultural Society has set the theme as ‘Edible Britain’, aimed at encouraging everyone to share the love and enjoyment of growing home-grown produce. Everyone can grow their own in any size space, so if you have a balcony, patio or garden, maybe even an allotment – there are so many ways to grow some tasty veg. Containers and hanging baskets are ideal if you are short of space, whether you choose tumbling tomatoes, strawberries or herbs in a basket or a container with peppers, sweetcorn, courgette, dwarf beans …. the choice is endless. And you don’t just have to stick with vegetables in a basket or container, maybe mix in a colourful petunia for an eye-catching display. If you have an area of trellis or garden where you can use some bamboo canes suitable for climbers, why not try some climbing French or Runner bean mixed in with something like a black-eyed Susie or Rhodochiton . We have a wide selection of vegetable and herb plants to get you started along with some ready planted baskets and containers if you want to cheat a little and if you need a little help, there is always somebody on hand to give advice.
